2016’s anticipated books and films

Sketches -s 6

Happy New Year’s Eve, my readers!  There is nothing like starting off on a fresh page with a set of goals and a new start.

2016 is a year of wonderful releases for books and films.  Even though I always say I’m dying of want and need all the time, the anticipation and excitement that builds overtime is part of the experience.  When it finally arrives, it’s completely worth the wait.  Here’s a compilation of my highly anticipated 2016 books and films!

b o o k s (top five)

1) Lady Midnight, Cassandra Clare – March 8, 2015

13541054

The series following The Mortal Instruments, this is a book I’ve been waiting for since May 2014 (aka since CoHF came out).  The Dark Artifices follows the story of Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn after Jace’s and Clary’s time, and spins a tale of vengeance, forbidden love, and a mysterious murderer.  I’m especially excited to see (or read?) cameos by old characters from TMI and TID.  Anyone who has fallen in love with Cassandra Clare’s world of Shadowhunters will definitely be on the edge of their seats for this new spinoff novel.

2) Glass Sword, Victoria Aveyard – February 9, 2015

*spoiler alert for Red Queen!*

THIS BOOK.  I NEED THIS BOOK.  After reading and rereading that devastatingly unsatisfying semi-cliffhanger at the end of Red Queen, Mare Barrow and Scarlet Guard race neck to neck with the notorious king to recruit, or in the King’s case, kill, the rest of the Reds with powers that neither Silvers or Reds can comprehend.  The hatred that Mare and Cal have developed for Maven binds them into one common goal; I will kill him.  *shivers with excitement*  I know Averyard will deliver nothing but her best, so I am ready to read the more of Mare’s epic journey.

I’ve also written a spoiler-free review of Red Queen, which can be found here.

3) The Hidden Oracle, Rick Riordan – May 3, 2016

26252859

ATTENTION:  WE DO NOT HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER YEAR FOR A NEW RICK RIORDAN BOOK.  No, we get to receive a whole new series starring Apollo, the god that comes off as a lazy teenager living life for the sake of living life.  When he gets on the bad side of Zeus, Apollo is sent down to New York as a teenager with no powers what so ever.  Without any weapons on his side, he has many enemies who have been waiting for a moment to destroy him once and for all.  And, of course, the nearest safe haven is Camp Half-Blood.

I AM PREPPED TO READ MORE OF APOLLO’S CRAPPY HAIKUS AND SEE HIM EMBARRASS HIMSELF AT CAMP HALF-BLOOD.  Enough said.

4) Crooked Kingdom, Leigh Bardugo – September 22, 2016

*spoilers for Six of Crows*

I cannot explain my dying love for Six of Crows nor Kaz Brekker.  It’s simply not possible.  Six of Crows is the companion novel to the Grisha Trilogy, and follows a band of misfits that pulled off the biggest heist ever: getting into the Fjerdan Ice Court.  Now, instead of bathing in the luxury of kruge, Kaz Brekker and the Dregs have lost more than what money can bring buy.  They’re off on a rescue mission and eyes set for vengeance.   Thrown in the world of deception and love, Crooked Kingdom is the continuation to the action-filled tale of the Dregs.

Why is September 22 so far away?  #firstworldproblems  I am so pumped for Crooked Kingdom so I can see how it unfolds!

5) Calamity, Brandon Sanderson – February 16, 2016 15704486

*slight spoilers for the previous two books*

Steelheart and Firefight has to be the best trilogy I’ve read this year, which I raced through in less than one week.  It was the first series by Brandon Sanderson I’ve picked up, and it will not be my last.  His writing entices and pulls you into the story, and you don’t realized you’ve fallen deep within the world until the end of each book.  Calamity is the thrilling conclusion to the Reckoners trilogy.  In a world of where superheroes cruelly rule, the Reckoners, a rebel group defying the Epics, are trying to overthrow the monarchy for the sake of a better world.  Now, their leader is now the Reckoner’s enemy, and the group is falling apart.  David and Megan now must uncover the mystery behind Epics, starting with what began it all: Calamity.

I can’t wait to see how Sanderson ends the series!

Here are some other novels I am excited for:

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

When the teaser trailer dropped, I screamed and almost broke my laptop.  This is a new movie (with the script written by J.K ROWLING) in the Wizarding world, dating back to the late 1920s in America.  Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was originally a textbook in the boxset of Hogwarts Library, and now has evolved into a complete story of its own.  Newt Scamander, a Magizoologist, travels to the States and accidentally unleashes creatures he keeps in a “bottomless” briefcase.  Eddie Redmayne (I can write an entire blog post on him) is casted to be Scamander, and my enthusiasm for this film is much too big to ever contain.  The perfect actors, plus the perfect plot, can only equal up to be the perfect film.  It is to be a trilogy (THREE FILMS GUYS).  It’s felt like ages since the last Harry Potter movie came out, and having another film in the world of magic is more than I can ever ask for.

here are some other films I’m also very excited for:

    1. AHHH. I designed my own grapics/logo, and it took me a while to fiddle with it and find the perfect theme. If I have spare time, I can design you a logo, but I’m a little bit caught up in life myself. In all honesty, just start writing first, and worry about the pretty stuff later. It’s really the content that matters.

      1. Yeah it can get pricey! Just get your blog to have a clean, fresh look, and you can spice it up later once you have the time. 🙂
